In October Alex Box released an amazing book in which she collaborated with Rankin, and as I got my hands on a copy recently, I just had to take the opportunity to write about it. This book, for me, is such a huge inspiration and also a turning point in the makeup artists career. Not that I am suggesting that she was not successful before this, no no no.... But I do think that putting out such an amazing collection of work such as this really makes it obvious that she is a leader in her own right.

If you are not familiar with Alex, she studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art  and found herself focusing on performance and bodies. This led her into using makeup as her tool for artistic expression, and as you can see from the above image, her talent is very obvious. She is creative part of the thriving Illamasqua cosmetic range, and also one of the most sought out creative fashion makeup artists today.

PRESENTING THE HAIRUP COLLECTION 2010

Take a look at the collection of hairups below designed by myself and Johnny Mulhern for Mowgli. In the past few seasons, hair grooming has really increased on the catwalks and also on the streets. I love grooming hair into a coiffure of stylish delight, and i also really think that more people should get in on the action. No longer is it an act for when you have a 'black tie' event on, it is a way of showing your individuality and style. Take a look back in history and you will see that it is such a classic way to groom and style your hair. Im sure everyone would know of at least one friend of your grandparents who still get their hair french rolled once a week. This is not what I am suggesting, although if it was good enough for the stylish people of past decades, then why cant we grab onto the trend and just give it a stamp of contemporary fabulousness????

I am pleased to say that at a party at mine that saw in 2010, there were 3 spotted Dollyknots (as been feature on COIFFURE CULTURE many times). Loves it.

With great excitement and anticipation I am extremely pleased to announce that Mowgli is opening a new AVEDA Lifestyle Salon and Spa with me as its Creative Director!!!! The new salon/spa will be on St Johns Wood High St with an opening date of early March 2010.

This is a fantastic promotion and oppurtunity for me and also for Mowgli for branching out into its second salon. And what an amazing salon it will be!!!!

TEAM DANNII OR TEAM CHERYL?????

So its the X Factor final this weekend and there has been so much talk in the press over the past few months questioning which female judge is leading in the style stakes this season. Its quite amazing the amount of attention this subject has attracted. So who is winning for you? And more importantly what are they going to wear this weekend on the final???

TEAM DANNII has really been the leader this season. She has gone from being the judge questioned by many brits for her choice of outfits and also what it is that gives her the right to judge on this show. May I add that being a fellow Australian, I know that her CV definitely gives her the credentials to pass on her knowledge on her contestants, from Pop Star to Musical Theatre performer. This season she has won over the hearts of the nation with her strong and chic hair chop, and also her brave choice of clothing that doesnt look like its trying to hard, but in fact it suits her age. Every show she wears her classic bob in a different style, proving to the world that she likes to play with her look and that she doesnt take herself too seriously.

TEAM CHERYL has continued on the same wave as last season that we all fell in love with. Lovely dresses, the same big, long (too long) hair, and the occasional frightful, edgy outfit. Now dont get me wrong, I am a huge supporter of fresh and creative fashion, although I dont think she is pulling it off as well as she would like. Her hair is dated and stale, and this teamed with the "edgy" dresses that she has adorned makes her look like a Chav on a night out in Cardiff. Although in saying this, Cheryl I do absolutely adore you, and I will always continue to support you and your girls. But maybe we need a hair change to show that you are as forward thinking that you think you are.

In debating both sides I think its quite obvious who I believe has the fashion 'X' factor.

THE DOLLYKNOT FEATURED IN STYLE MAGAZINE!

Yesterday, flicking through the Sunday Times Style magazine, I was pleasantly suprised to see a step-by-step guide on how to do a Dollyknot (or as they call it, a Dollybun). I just thought I needed to take the oppurtunity to say "You saw it here first" and also "I told you it was hot". Its fantastic seeing hot chicks rocking the look. I especially love a certain gorgeous brunette often seen in the vicinity of Primrose Hill draped in layers of Vivienne Westwood adorned with a Dollyknot. This is exactly what Im talking about people. So next time your in the Primrose Hill area, keep your eyes peeled..........
